A good friend of mine recently bought a HDB in Chai Chee and wanted a live edge Suar plank for his study room. The plank is placed on top some built-in storage and serves as a reading corner for the study.
This piece is extremely long at 270cm, width of 50cm. Here comes the challenge. It can't go into the standard HDB lift!!!
Well, the Army provides good foundation training in carrying heavy loads. Together with our group of friends, we managed to climb 10 floors and installed it in 1 piece.

Live edge suar table with customised powder coated steel legs
Newly completed live edge Suar table project.
Recently completed live edge Suar table for a customer in RV residence. Took us about 6~8 months to complete this. Of course, some waiting time as the apartment wasn't ready.
Hope the customer likes it.
First picture taken at factory before delivery. Doesn't look that impressive under poor light condition.
With proper lighting, it turns out pretty good. A good center piece for the dinning room to impress your guests. This table can accommodate 6 people, suitable for our modern day apartments and flats.

Burmese Teak Timber Flooring
Burmese Teak Timber Flooring is the most common solid hardwood timber flooring in Singapore. Its slightly different from the traditional Burmese Teak parquet flooring because it uses bigger pieces of teak flooring. Of course, the price is different.
I did this for my cousin's apartment at Oleania Residences at River Valley Singapore using Burmese Teak Timber Flooring (75mm x 10mm ~ 1 to 3feet) random laying. The top coat is finished with a mixture of matt/glossy of polyurethane varnish.
Burmese teak as compared to Indonesian teak is darker in color, and contains more oil in its wood. The oil acts as a natural water repellent and prevents the teak from rotting and damage from termites. This makes it more expensive and elegance for flooring and furniture.

Live Edge Table with Bench
Live Edge Table with matching bench for my cousin's new apartment at Oleanas Residence River Valley Singapore.
This is a six seater, which is suitable for small family living in HDB or private apartments in Singapore. The legs are "chopstick" cast iron legs with matt black powder coating for lasting finish.
The thickness is about 2 inch which is sturdy and lighter as compared to those big live edge table. Just in case you needed to create space for the extra guests.

Live edge plank for Bay Window
A friend of mine recently approached me to customise a piece of Suar wood to add some character to her condominium at the Esta located at Marine Parade.
Well, after placing the plank on the existing concrete bay window, it turned out to be a beauty. No drilling or gluing is required.
This piece is 2.4m x 1/2m wide with a 1.5inch thickness and lucky it fits the lift as well. :)
Below are some pictures for all to view. Enjoy.

Live Edge Dining Table for HDB Flats & Apartments
Most live edge tables available in the market are relatively huge (2m long). Such tables will not be able to fit in the typical small flats or apartments in Singapore. Being a wood lover, I decided to explore making a small 6~8 seater live edge dining table.
Step 1: Logs selection. Finding a suitable tree trunk with the right dimensions.
Suar Tree Logs |
Step 2: After the planks have been cut to size, it would need to be seasoned to reduce the moisture. This process takes about 3~6 months. The thicker the plank, the longer the duration.
Air Seasoning in indoor |
Step 3: After 4 months of air seasoning, the planks are ready to be processed. They are trimmed to dimensions, using hand planed using electric planers and sanded to prepare the surface.
Live Edge planks after 1st coat of varnish |
Step 4: After 4 months of hard work, the table is ready and delivered and assembled at the customer's apartment. The stainless steel legs is a nice complement to the wooden live edge table (1500 x 750mm).
